Cedar Grove Township is a census-designated place and township located in Essex County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 12,300.
Geography
Cedar Grove is located at 40°51'21" North, 74°13'44" West (40.855854, -74.228981)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 11.3 km² (4.3 mi²). 10.9 km² (4.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.99% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 12,300 people, 4,403 households, and 3,240 families residing in the township. The population density is 1,125.4/km² (2,913.1/mi²). There are 4,470 housing units at an average density of 409.0/km² (1,058.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 90.05% White, 2.99% African American, 0.05% Native American, 5.42% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 1.00% from two or more races. 3.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,403 households out of which 28.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.4% are married couples living together, 7.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.4% are non-families. 23.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.05.
In the township the population is spread out with 19.2% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 22.5% who are 65 years of age or older.
