Hierarchy
Summary of lunaverse's post at 07:05, 24 Aug 2004 (UTC):
The current hierarchy of the categories seems a little weird. I would propose we move a lot of things up. At the very, very least, make this look more like the categories under Wikipedia:Requested_articles. OR, move a bunch of stuff up here, things I would consider Major Categories, so people can find them more easily. Like Philosophy, Art, Medicine, Science, Music, Current Events, and such.
Maybe look at one of the category search sites (like Yahoo.com) and steal -- uh -- borrow some ideas.
What is Category:Main page?
I am also confused! What is the point of Category:Main page? Everything should go under Category:Fundamental and then Category:Categories will not be required! Brianjd 06:56, 2004 Nov 15 (UTC)
- Category:Main Page represents in the category system the page setup under the Main Page. This is distinct(and smaller) than Category:Fundamental. Yes, it's somewhat non-sensical. More verbiage on what the differences are is probably ok, but I doubt much clarity will come from it. JesseW 07:42, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Categories under Category:Fundamental vs those on main page
The categories on the main page should be the same as the categories under Category:Fundamental. Brianjd 06:26, 2004 Nov 16 (UTC)
- I disagree, categories on Fundamental are far too abstract for the front page of an encyclopedia, abstraction, belief, knowledge are not what you would find if you went to Britannica or Encarta, you would find categories like: Science, Culture, Geography etc. I think it's fine for fundamental to exist, but the main page categories (i.e. the ones on the Template:Categorybrowsebar should be categories that most people would expect to find when they go to any other encyclopedia (online or otherwise). Of course, there is room for more esoteric classifications, but as alternatives, not necessarily front and center on the Main Page. --Lexor|Talk 07:46, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC)
