Carlos Valderrama (baseball player)
|
Carlos Alberto Valderrama [val-der-RAH-ma] (born November 30, 1977 in Bachaquero, Zulia State, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball center fielder and right-handed batter who plays for the San Francisco Giants.
A speedy outfield prospect, Valderrama has been hampered by injuries throughout career, having played in more than 50 games just four times. He is just 27 years old despite having 10 years of professional experience.
If there's one thing that Valderrama has proven he can do during his minors career, it's hit for average when healthy. He is a career .291 hitter with 49 home runs, 291 RBI, 402 runs and 201 stolen bases in 667 games. In a brief stint with the Giants in 2003, he hit .143 (1-for-7) with one stolen base in seven games.
