Carlos Alberto Escobar Martínez (born August 11, 1964 in La Guaira, Vargas State, Venezuela), better known as Carlos Martínez, and also nicknamed "Café", is a former Major League Baseball first baseman/third baseman and right-handed batter.
Martínez played for the Chicago White Sox (1988-90), Cleveland Indians (1991-93) and California Angels (1995). Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1983, he was and sent to the White Sox in 1986. Finally, he made his debut in the 1988 season.
Listed at 6-5, 175 pounds, Martínez never was able to fulfill the potential that he showed in the minors. He is best remembered as the man that hit the long fly ball bouncing off José Canseco's head for a home run (May 26, 1993).
Martínez was a career .258 hitter with 25 home runs, 161 RBI, 145 runs, 383 hits, 63 doubles, six triples, and 10 stolen bases in 465 games.
