Carlito's Way (1993 movie)

Carlito's Way is a 1993 gangster movie written by Judge Edwin Torres and directed by Brian DePalma. It stars Al Pacino, Sean Penn, Penelope Ann Miller, John Leguizamo and Viggo Mortensen.

In 1975, Judge Torres wrote "Carlito's Way" and its sequel "After Hours", which follow the exploits of "Carlito Brigante", a fictional Puerto Rican drug dealer and hustler who goes to prison and then struggles to go "straight" after his release. The 1993 film focuses on Carlito's endeavours once he is released from prison with the help of his lawyer David Kleinfeld.

The film starts out with Carlito being released from prison after 5 years. The movie progresses to Carlito telling former friends that he is "retired" from the business and has no intention of returning. Instead, Carlito wishes to seek out his former love Gail and try to rekindle his relationship with her, which turns out to be somewhat of a success. As the film goes on Carlito continues to work towards making his $75,000 in order to join his friend in the car rental business. Then Carlito is confronted by Kleinfeld who tells him he needs his help to break a gangster out of prison or he (Kleinfeld) will be killed. Carlito agrees so he can repay his favour to Kleinfeld. During the break out Kleinfeld kills the the man he is supossed to free and his son too.

The movie then takes a wild spin when the other son of the mobster is after Carlito for what happened to his father. After shooting Kleinfeld in the head he goes after Carlito and chases him throughout the train station. Carlito unfourtunately meets his demise at the hands of Benny Blanco who shoots him 3 times in the chest and thus starting Carlito's refelction on life before dying on a stretcher. Gail goes off then to where the planned destination was to raise her and Carlito's child. The film ends with Gail dancing on an exotic beach with the song "You are so beautiful" playing in the background.
