Carencro is a city located in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,120. Carencro a bedroom community to Lafayette, Louisiana and is famous as the birthplace of Rockin' Dopsie.

The racial makeup of the city is 56.37% White, 42.19% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
