Cappadonna
|
Cappadonna (born Darryl Hill in 1969) is an American rapper who has been featured on many Wu-Tang Clan projects. He has appeared on Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx (1995, 1995 in music) album and made his debut on a collective Wu-Tang album with 1997's Wu-Tang Forever (1997, 1997 in music). He has been labelled by several sources as the "tenth member of the Wu-Tang Clan," though it is uncertain whether this status is official or merely honorary. Cappadonna then released his first solo record, The Pillage, in 1998 (see 1998 in music) to popular acclaim but mixed reviews.
For some time after the Wu-Tang Clan seemed to be on hiatus, Cappadonna was forced to resort to more pedestrian means of earning income, and it is known that he was a taxi driver in Baltimore for eight months. Rumours abound about his brief change in vocation: it is hypothesised that he did so in order to support himself and his family, while Cappadonna's own explanation is that "he intentionally gave up what material possessions he had amassed and walked the streets of Baltimore for 8 months, before returning to the rap game" [1] (http://www.allhiphop.com/hiphopnews/?ID=4501). Regardless, he returned to the music industry shortly, with 2003's The Struggle and a guest appearance at the Wu-Tang Clan's reunion concert at the Rock the Bells music festival in San Bernardino, CA.
