Campus 14
|
Campus 14 is a bar crawl on the University Park Campus of the University of Nottingham, England. Following complaints from local hospitals about the number of students requiring medical attention, since 2001 the university has officially banned students from partaking in the event, and staff at hall bars now often refuse to admit or serve students they suspect of attempting the feat.
The crawl comprises two drinks in the university students union bar (the 'Ark', previously called the 'Buttery'), and a drink in each of the bars of the twelve halls of residence (the other student bar on campus - the sports hall bar - is not normally included and neither is that of the nearby self-catering halls of residence).
To do the crawl properly you should drink either a pint or a double shot in each bar, though few students manage this in all fourteen. The crawl is complicated by the relatively short time in which it has to be undertaken (the first bar opens at about 7pm, and all but the union bar close by 11pm). The crawl is usually started either at the Ark or Florence Boot Hall and proceeds round campus in a clockwise direction finishing in the Ark.
It is commonly performed on a Friday and Saturday night, when bars in town typically do not offer student discounts and the Ark is open later. It is sometimes performed in fancy dress. Some people, having finished the crawl, will then attempt to swim across the lake. Since the ban the crawl has now altered slightly and often takes place in the opposite direction due to security staff being added to what would have been the later bars.
