According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 20.77% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 516 people, 219 households, and 146 families residing in the city. The population density is 193.4/km² (500.3/mi²). There are 274 housing units at an average density of 102.7/km² (265.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 65.70% White, 33.33% Black or African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. 1.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 219 households out of which 26.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% are married couples living together, 17.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% are non-families. 29.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 2.89.
