Calhoun is a city located in McLean County, Kentucky. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 836. It is the county seat of McLean CountyTemplate:GR.

Calhoun is located at 37°32'19" North, 87°15'34" West (37.538633, -87.259414)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.86% water.
Calhoun is located on the Green River, the longest river entirely in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and is home to the Army Corps of Engineers' Lock and Dam #2.
History
The city was founded in the 1700s as Fort Vienna to protect a bend in the Green River and was also known as Rhoadesville at the beginning. It has been the county seat of McLean County since the county's formation in 1854.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 836 people, 357 households, and 210 families residing in the city. The population density is 474.7/km² (1,231.1/mi²). There are 395 housing units at an average density of 224.3/km² (581.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.80% White, 0.60% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.24% from two or more races. 0.60% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 357 households out of which 24.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.9% are non-families. 38.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.11 and the average family size is 2.77.
In the city the population is spread out with 18.8% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 28.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 46 years. For every 100 females there are 73.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 68.9 males.
