Calcium is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in Jefferson County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the hamlet had a total population of 3,346.
Calcium is in the Town of Le Ray and was formerly called Sanford's Corner.
Geography
Calcium is located at 44°2'5" North, 75°50'32" West (44.034761, -75.842114)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 14.5 km² (5.6 mi²). 14.5 km² (5.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,346 people, 1,052 households, and 911 families residing in the community. The population density is 231.1/km² (598.9/mi²). There are 1,134 housing units at an average density of 78.3/km² (203.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 67.30% White, 19.52% African American, 1.23% Native American, 1.64% Asian, 0.36% Pacific Islander, 6.19% from other races, and 3.77% from two or more races. 12.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,052 households out of which 62.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.6% are married couples living together, 10.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.4% are non-families. 10.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.18 and the average family size is 3.41.
In the community the population is spread out with 40.0% under the age of 18, 16.2% from 18 to 24, 34.1% from 25 to 44, 7.2% from 45 to 64, and 2.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 23 years. For every 100 females there are 100.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.4 males.
