Butters is a census-designated place located in Bladen County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 261.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²). 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.76% is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 261 people, 108 households, and 77 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 77.5/km² (201.1/mi²). There are 119 housing units at an average density of 35.3/km² (91.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 92.72% White, 4.60% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.30% from other races, and 0.38% from two or more races. 2.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 108 households out of which 35.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.4% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% are non-families. 25.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.88.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.5 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $26,875, and the median income for a family is $45,250. Males have a median income of $26,484 versus $21,908 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $16,722. 29.0% of the population and 9.2% of families are below the poverty line.
