Budapest Honvéd FC are a Hungarian football team. The club was founded as Kispest which was the name of a Budapest suburb in close vicinity of Budapest until 1950. (Since then, Kispest has formed part of District XIX of Budapest).
The name Honvéd (literally "defender of the homeland") was chosen in the early 1950s when the club was dominated by the Hungarian Ministry of Defence and the Hungarian Army and was named Budapesti Honvéd. The football team was a leader before 1956 revolution in Hungary. The team won national football championships several times. Legendary football players of Budapesti Honvéd included Ferenc Puskás, Sándor Kocsis, József Bozsik, Zoltán Czibor.
