Bryant Harrison McGill is an American poet who was educated by the protégé of W.H. Auden, and the well known naturalist and intellectual, seven-time Pulitzer Prize nominee and Emmy award winner, Dr. Allen W. Eckert, which lasted for four years. During his private tutelage in the mid 90’s, McGill was introduced to American Academy of Arts and Letters inductee and Editor of the world famous Paris Review literary journal, George Plimpton, who also advised and encouraged McGill’s poetic works and direction.
McGill's poetic works have received positive reviews from a notable cast of critics, intellectuals, professors, authors, celebrities, musicians, and even Nobel Prize Laureates. Along with numerous awards and citations, McGill was profiled in the 22nd Edition of Marquis Who's Who in the World, (ISBN 0-8379-1133-8) which is their most exclusive reference, and which is reserved for significant achievers of international notoriety whose reference value warrants inclusion. In 2004, McGill was nominated for induction into the Poetry Project's "Contemporary Poets Hall of Fame", which seeks to document the lives and works of significant contemporary poets, and which is sponsored by ibiblio, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication UNC-CH.
Bryant McGill is the editor and author of the award-winning McGill English Dictionary of Rhyme, which is used by tens-of-thousands of writers, educators, students, aspiring-poets and songwriters from over one hundred countries, and which purports to be the world's most extensive rhyming reference ever created in the history of the English language. The McGill English Dictionary of Rhyme is the first publication in the McGill Reference Series to also include, Poet's Muse: Associative Reference for Writer's Block (ISBN 1-4116-2468-8), the McGill English Thesaurus for Poets, and the McGill English Dictionary for Poets. McGill has also written and donated a number of software tools freely used by writers around the world.
Though scholarly trained as a poet, Bryant McGill is well-known for his advocacy of the poetic arts, and has taken up a number of charitable projects to such ends. In 1998, McGill founded of the McGill Academy of Literary Arts, a small, tuition-free online private school, with aims to partner experienced volunteer mentors with lesser experienced poets. The school has only taken on hand full of students, though students who show promise and diligence receive a great deal of personal hands on interaction. Another project McGill has undertaken is his Poetry Against Poverty Initiative, where McGill is seeking to provide a symbiotic outlet for both poets and those who want to affect positive change by helping impoverished children and their families.
