Brother (movie)
|
Brother is a 2001 film starring, written, and directed by Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano.
Shot in Los Angeles, California, Kitano plays a deposed Tokyo yakuza setting up a drug empire in Los Angeles with the aid of his half-brother and a local gangster, Denny, played by Omar Epps. They confront the Mafia.
At the time of release it was hyped as Kitano Takeshi's vehicle for 'breaking into' the United States market. The film was a critical flop and did poorly at the box office, seemingly relegating Kitano to the smaller U.S. foreign film market. It has the trademark Kitano twitches of face, wit, sudden bursts of violence. (And also some pinky-chopping and seppuku.)
