Brookside is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located in New Castle County, Delaware. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 14,806.
Geography
Brookside is located at 39°40'9" North, 75°43'5" West (39.669211, -75.717961)Template:GR.According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 10.1 km² (3.9 mi²). 10.1 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 14,806 people, 5,465 households, and 3,858 families residing in the community. The population density is 1,462.1/km² (3,787.7/mi²). There are 5,645 housing units at an average density of 557.4/km² (1,444.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 77.35% White, 15.03% African American, 0.32% Native American, 2.61% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 2.22% from other races, and 2.40% from two or more races. 5.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,465 households out of which 35.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.9% are married couples living together, 15.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.4% are non-families. 22.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.15.
In the community the population is spread out with 26.8% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.9 males.
