Bronxville, New York

Often thought by those outside of the Tri-State Area as being in The Bronx, Bronxville is a village located in Westchester County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 6,543. It is the home of Concordia College, a Christian liberal arts college operated by the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, and Sarah Lawrence College. Bronxville is located in the town of Eastchester.

Geography

Bronxville is located at 40°56'24" North, 73°49'34" West (40.939950, -73.826214)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.5 km² (0.9 mi²). 2.5 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,543 people, 2,312 households, and 1,660 families residing in the village. The population density is 2,659.2/km² (6,869.3/mi²). There are 2,387 housing units at an average density of 970.1/km² (2,506.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 91.88% White, 1.15% African American, 0.05% Native American, 4.83% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. 2.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,312 households out of which 40.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.4% are married couples living together, 6.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% are non-families. 24.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.27.

In the village the population is spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $144,940, and the median income for a family is $200,000. Males have a median income of $100,000 versus $61,184 for females. The per capita income for the village is $89,483. 2.7% of the population and 1.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.6% of those under the age of 18 and 2.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Bronxville Postal Zone

Bronxville's zip code is 10708 and covers the Village of Bronxville proper as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester and the Lawrence Park and Cedar Knolls sections of Yonkers. This brings the zip code's population to 22,411 (2000 Census). Covering an area more than twice as large as the actual municipality of Bronxville itself, areas within Bronxville's zip code are often identified as Bronxville, and often intentionally, for public relations purposes, as in the case of Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers.
