Britain's Best Sitcom
|
Britain's Best Sitcom is the name of a poll conducted in 2003 and 2004 by the BBC. Criticism was levelled at the BBC after it was revealed that the top ten programmes were all their own productions and that only one place lower at number 11 was the highest ranking non-BBC production (Father Ted).
Out of a list of 100 sitcoms, viewers were asked to vote for their favourite by phone, text message and on the web. The top ten went forward to a final round of voting.
The high position achieved by The Vicar of Dibley and the low positioning of Fawlty Towers surprised many observers.
