Brighton is a town located in Franklin County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,682.
The Town of Brighton was founded in 1858 from part of the Town of Duane.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 215.0 km² (83.0 mi²). 202.1 km² (78.0 mi²) of it is land and 12.9 km² (5.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.99% water.
The center of Brighton is the Twelve Corners district, which is at the intersection of Winton, Monroe, and Edgemeer.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,682 people, 319 households, and 203 families residing in the town. The population density is 8.3/km² (21.6/mi²). There are 591 housing units at an average density of 2.9/km² (7.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 79.37% White, 18.55% African American, 0.65% Native American, 1.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.24% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 319 households out of which 34.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% are married couples living together, 5.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.1% are non-families. 29.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
