Bridgton is a census-designated place located in Cumberland County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,359.

Geography

Bridgton is located at 44°3'43" North, 70°42'31" West (44.062219, -70.708838)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 34.9 km² (13.5 mi²). 25.4 km² (9.8 mi²) of it is land and 9.5 km² (3.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 27.30% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,359 people, 926 households, and 577 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 92.9/km² (240.6/mi²). There are 1,334 housing units at an average density of 52.6/km² (136.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.16% White, 0.76% Black or African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 926 households out of which 28.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.6% are non-families. 30.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 2.85.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 15.5% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 106.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $31,115, and the median income for a family is $40,134. Males have a median income of $26,447 versus $21,429 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $16,494. 21.2% of the population and 10.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.7% of those under the age of 18 and 7.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
