Brendan Comiskey

Brendan Comiskey is the former bishop of the Diocese of Ferns in County Wexford. He resigned on April 1, 2002, over charges that he had failed to deal adequately with allegations that Fr. Sean Fortune was abusing boys.
Fr. Fortune took his own life while awaiting trial accused of 29 charges of sex abuse against boys. Even the Catholic Boy Scouts had banned Fr Fortune.
There were further allegations of abuse by priests in Comiskey' diocese. Father Jim Grennan was accused by the Health Board of abusing a little girl, for example. Comiskey's office admitted that the Bishop received treatment for alcoholism. It is alleged that Cardinal O'Fiaich had been told about the allegations, as had the Holy See. Brendan Comiskey said he had tried to deal with Fr Fortune. Victims would say he didn't try hard enough.
