According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 50.8 km² (19.6 mi²). 50.8 km² (19.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Brecksville has a significant portion of its area within the Cleveland Metroparks (http://www.clemetparks.com/), with a number of rivers and valleys crossing the area.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 13,382 people, 5,033 households, and 3,754 families residing in the city. The population density is 263.5/km² (682.4/mi²). There are 5,206 housing units at an average density of 102.5/km² (265.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.87% White, 1.91% African American, 0.03% Native American, 2.56% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,033 households out of which 32.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.2% are married couples living together, 6.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% are non-families. 22.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.02.
In the city the population is spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 30.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 99.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.0 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $76,159, and the median income for a family is $86,848. Males have a median income of $65,382 versus $39,912 for females. The per capita income for the city is $37,838. 2.5% of the population and 1.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.8% of those under the age of 18 and 4.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Transportation and Economy
Brecksville is located near or on a number of highways that provide access to neighboring communities. I77 provides access to Cleveland and Akron, while I80 provides access to Toledo and Pennsylvania. Accordingly, a significant portion of people living in Brecksville don't work in town.
Education
Brecksville shares a school system with its neighboring city, Broadview Heights, Ohio. There are three elementary schools, an intermediate school, a junior high school, and a high school in the system.
