Brandywine is a census-designated place located in Prince George's County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,410.

Brandywine is located at 38°41'55" North, 76°50'57" West (38.698564, -76.849143)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²). 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,410 people, 478 households, and 377 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 123.7/km² (320.4/mi²). There are 501 housing units at an average density of 44.0/km² (113.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 56.24% White, 38.23% African American, 1.13% Native American, 1.13% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 2.62% from two or more races. 0.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 478 households out of which 34.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.1% are non-families. 16.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.95 and the average family size is 3.29.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.1 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $57,063, and the median income for a family is $64,038. Males have a median income of $41,783 versus $35,242 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $19,035. 10.1% of the population and 8.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.3% of those under the age of 18 and 17.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
History
William H. Early named the town of Brandywine as property he owned in the mid-19th century. It is thought to be named after the Battle of Brandywine.
