Boyz
|
Boyz is a free magazine, targeted mainly at gay men and distributed mainly through gay bars, clubs and saunas in the United Kingdom. Published weekly by Millivres Chronos, it tends to focus on news about the gay scene and celebrities (generally pop artists) popular with scene-going gay men.
Boyz is relatively light on "serious" content, being quite tabloid in its outlook. A typic issue will include interviews with pop bands, actors or writers, a fashion shoot, music reviews and a rundown of recent and upcoming events on the gay scene, including a night-by-night list of events. There is a soft porn pin-up photo every week, sharing a double-page spread with a vox pop on some sex-related issue, and a significant proportion of the magazine is taken up by adverts for male escorts, contact ads and erotic phonelines. There is also a agony aunt page, where readers may write to seek advice on issues about relationships, sex and health (generally in that order of significance). Much of the magazine is given up to advertising — more than would be considered typical for a British magazine, but understandably so, given that the advertising is what pays for the production and distribution of the magazine.
Millivres Chronos also publish a slimmer, more "serious" (broadsheet style) weekly sister title called The Pink Paper, also free and targeted at the wider gay community, usually in the same venues.
