Borough High Street
|
Borough High Street is the last section of the road from Dover to London as it approaches London Bridge. It is also the northern section of the A3 road from London to Portsmouth.
It divides historic Southwark in two. It was originally the Roman road Watling Street and in the mediæval period was the site of famous Inns such as the Tabard, the George and the White Hart. St Thomas Hospital lay to the East next to the modern Guy's Hospital and St Mary Overie Monastery to the West. Borough Market has its main entrance at the London Bridge end.
