Boothville-Venice, Louisiana

Boothville-Venice is a census-designated place and collection of neighboring communities located in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. This area, consisting of the communites of Boothville, Venice, and Orchid are counted as a single town for purposes of the United States Census. As of the 2000 census, Boothville-Venice had a total population of 2,220. Boothville is the most populous and northernmost of these communities, all located along Louisiana Highway 23 on the West Bank of the Mississippi River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 13.1 km² (5.1 mi²). 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²) of it is land and 6.4 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 49.01% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,220 people, 746 households, and 584 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 333.5/km² (863.2/mi²). There are 933 housing units at an average density of 140.2/km² (362.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 61.94% White, 28.74% African American, 3.38% Native American, 4.01% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. 1.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 746 households out of which 41.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% are married couples living together, 14.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.7% are non-families. 19.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.96 and the average family size is 3.38.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 104.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $33,813, and the median income for a family is $42,823. Males have a median income of $35,385 versus $18,571 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $13,123. 17.3% of the population and 11.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.4% of those under the age of 18 and 21.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
