Bolivar is a city located in Polk County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,143. It is the county seat of Polk CountyTemplate:GR. The city was named for Bolivar, Tennessee, home to many of the original settlers. [1] (http://www.bolivarmo.com/aboutbot.htm)

Demographics

There are 3,636 housing units at an average density of 223.9/km² (580.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.50% White, 0.86% African American, 0.60% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. 1.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,318 households out of which 29.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% are non-families. 30.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.89.
In the city the population is spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 23.9% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 14.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 83.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.7 males.
