Bobby Brown
|
Bobby Brown (born Robert Barisford Brown on February 5, 1969 in Boston, Massachusetts) is an African-American R&B singer.
He began his music career as a member of the R&B group New Edition. The group's hits with Brown included "Cool It Now", "Candy Girl", and "Mr. Telephone Man". Brown left the group for a solo career in 1986, frustrated that lead singer Ralph Tresvant was spotlighted instead of him.
A pioneer of New Jack Swing music, Brown released his second album Don't Be Cruel in 1988. With hits like "Don't Be Cruel", "Every Little Step", "Rock Wit' cha", "My Prerogative" and "Roni", the album made Brown famous. The following year he contributed a song (#2 pop single On Our Own) to the Ghostbusters 2 soundtrack (Brown also had a cameo in the film).
Brown has also dabbled in an acting career. So far, he has been unsuccessful in that venture.
He married Whitney Houston in July 1992. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Brown's drug and alcohol troubles threatened to overshadow his music.
In February 2004 Brown was arrested and jailed in Georgia on a parole violation related to a previous drunk driving conviction.
