According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 8.7 km² (3.4 mi²). 8.6 km² (3.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.89% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,896 people, 1,329 households, and 851 families residing in the village. The population density is 451.7/km² (1,170.2/mi²). There are 1,427 housing units at an average density of 165.5/km² (428.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.82% White, 0.77% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 1.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,329 households out of which 28.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% are non-families. 33.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.99.
In the village the population is spread out with 19.7% under the age of 18, 22.3% from 18 to 24, 21.3% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 20.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 76.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 73.4 males.
