Bloomfield Hills is a city located in Oakland County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,940. Bloomfield Hills is the fourth richest city in the United States with more than 1,000 households. It is the richest city outside of California or Florida. It is located in the Midwest's wealthiest county, Oakland County. The city is 14 miles outside of the center of Detroit.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.9 km² (5.0 mi²). 12.8 km² (4.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.00% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,940 people, 1,520 households, and 1,167 families residing in the city. The population density is 307.3/km² (796.4/mi²). There are 1,628 housing units at an average density of 127.0/km² (329.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.69% White, 1.65% African American, 0.10% Native American, 6.57% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,520 households out of which 26.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.9% are married couples living together, 3.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% are non-families. 21.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.84.
