Blackstone is a town located in Worcester County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 8,804.

History
Blackstone was first settled in 1662 and was officially incorporated in 1845. Initially, the town was part of Mendon, MA before becoming a separate municipality. Prior to 1915, Blackstone contained the area to the west that would break away and become Millville, MA.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 29.1 km² (11.2 mi²). 28.2 km² (10.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.94% water. The Blackstone River, birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, meanders west to south east, on the south border of town.
The town is bordered by North Smithfield, RI and Woonsocket, RI to the south; Millville, MA to the west; Mendon, MA to the north, and Bellingham MA (Norfolk County) to the east.
The town contains two villages: Millerville and East Blackstone.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 8,804 people, 3,235 households, and 2,355 families residing in the town. The population density is 311.9/km² (807.4/mi²). There are 3,331 housing units at an average density of 118.0/km² (305.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.39% White, 0.33% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. 1.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,235 households out of which 38.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.9% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% are non-families. 22.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.20.
In the town the population is spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 33.7% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.5 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $55,163, and the median income for a family is $61,633. Males have a median income of $42,100 versus $27,448 for females. The per capita income for the town is $20,936. 3.7% of the population and 1.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.2% of those under the age of 18 and 12.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
