Black Oak is located at 35°50'11" North, 90°22'3" West (35.836510, -90.367504)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.2 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 286 people, 120 households, and 81 families residing in the town. The population density is 245.4/km² (641.3/mi²). There are 132 housing units at an average density of 113.3/km² (296.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.55% White, 0.35% Black or African American, 0.70% Native American, 0.70% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 120 households out of which 24.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% are married couples living together, 5.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% are non-families. 28.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.94.

In the town the population is spread out with 20.3% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 22.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 111.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $22,353, and the median income for a family is $32,917. Males have a median income of $26,042 versus $20,833 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,237. 17.5% of the population and 10.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 27.1% of those under the age of 18 and 16.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Other Facts

Black Oak is the hometown of the founding members of the 1970s Southern rock band, Black Oak Arkansas.
