Birch Run, Michigan

Birch Run is a village located in Saginaw County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,653. The village is located within Birch Run Township. Birch Run is home to one of the largest outlet malls in the United States. This mall, along with the proximity of the tourist mecca of Frankenmuth, makes the Birch Run area a busy place. Birch Run is also the home of the Great Lakes Storm one of the powerhouses of the Continental Basketball Association. The Storm play in the popular Expo Center, which hosts many unique events including dog shows, gun and knife exhibitions, and numerous trade shows.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 5.0 km² (1.9 mi²). 5.0 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,653 people, 699 households, and 459 families residing in the village. The population density is 332.4/km² (861.5/mi²). There are 726 housing units at an average density of 146.0/km² (378.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.64% White, 0.42% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.91% from other races, and 2.12% from two or more races. 3.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 699 households out of which 35.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% are married couples living together, 15.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.3% are non-families. 29.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the village the population is spread out with 26.8% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 34.5% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.4 males.
