Beverlywood is a neighborhood on the West Side of Los Angeles, California. The northern portions are sometimes considered to be a separate neighborhood, South Robertson.
Geography and Transportation
It is bordered by Century City on the northwest, Rancho Park on the west, Cheviot Hills on the southwest, Culver City on the south, Carthay Circle on the east, the Miracle Mile on the northeast, and the city of Beverly Hills on the north. Its principal thoroughfares are Pico, La Cienega, and Robertson Boulevards. The Santa Monica Freeway runs along its southern edge.
The Neighborhood
Largely residential, Beverlywood is one of the centers of Jewish life in Los Angeles. It contains a large number of synagogues and temples, as well as kosher restaurants, delicatessens, and markets. Renowned Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesenthal's Museum of Tolerance is in Beverlywood (and not, as is commonly thought, in Beverly Hills). The controversial Kabbalah Centre, whose mysticism has attracted famous disciples such as Madonna, is based in the district. The neighborhood is also home to large Arab and Persian populations.
Most of Beverlywood's inhabitants live in single-family homes built between the 1920s and the 1950s, with the oldest homes in the areas near Beverly Hills. Contained within the district's area is the Beverlywood Homes Association (http://www.beverlywoodha.com). Homes located within the boundaries of the association generally sell for higher prices than those outside of it, perhaps due to the strict enforcement of restrictive covenants by the association. The boundaries of the association area are roughly Robertson Blvd. on the east, Airdrome St. on the north, Rancho Park on the west, and Beverlywood St. on the south.
