History

First appearing in 1994, the Beretta 92 Combat model came into being on demand of combat shooting competitors. Somewhat similar to the Beretta 92 Stock, the Beretta 92 Combat is delivered with two barrels, a standard length and a long one.

Specifications

The Beretta 92 Combat is fitted with the heavy Brigadier slide but reverts back to an ambidextrous frame mounted safety based on the Beretta 92. In combat shooting this is useful as this way all shots can be fired in single-action with no variation in trigger pull. But unlike the original Beretta 92 or Beretta 92 Stock, the Beretta 92 Combat is a pure single-action pistol. Equipped with an optimized single-action trigger and adjustable sights, the Beretta 92 Combat is a formidable combat shooting pistol. A few were manufactured in stainless steel, but only the Bruniton version was made in large numbers.

Intended market

The Beretta 92 Combat is a pure sports pistol, used for IPSC and other pistol sports.

Design advantages

The Beretta 92 Combat is designed for high volume combat shooting. Like other Beretta 92s, it is very reliable and with its optimized single-action trigger a ultra fast shooting pistol. The Beretta 92 Combat safety levers are very fast to operate, enabling a proficient sports shooter to shoot two shots in less time than is required to shoot a single shot out of a typical double-action first shot pistol like the Beretta 92FS. Because the Beretta 92 Combat is built with fewer parts it is somewhat more reliable than a Beretta 92FS. Both barrels have hard chromed bores which reduces wear and corrosion. The barrels are fitted with front bushings to increase the accuracy of the Beretta 92 Combat. The rare stainless steel version lacks the hard chromed bores.

Limitations

The Beretta 92 Combat is not suited for police or military use because of its large safety levers, making it too easy to take off the safety without noticing it. The Beretta 92 Combat is a very heavy pistol. The Bruniton finish wears off inside the slide and increases slide to frame play. Like all Beretta 92 pistols the Beretta 92 Combat is not suited for use in harsh environments.
