History

First appearing in 1992, the Beretta 92FS Compact L model replaces the Beretta 92SB Compact.

Specifications

About the same size as a Beretta 92SB Compact, the Beretta 92FS Compact L added the slide retention device, Bruniton finish on the slide and better sights. The Beretta 92FS Compact L Inox is made out of stainless steel and has the same improvements.

Intended market

The Beretta 92FS Compact L is a law enforcement pistol, but it was also sold to the civilian market for self-defense.

Design advantages

The Beretta 92FS Compact L maintains all the good handling and safety qualities of the Beretta 92FS while being somewhat more compact. On the standard version the barrel bore is hard chromed to reduce wear and corrosion. The Inox version which uses a stainless steel barrel lacks the hard chromed bore, but is not subject to the problem with the Bruniton wearing away inside the slide which leads to increased slide to frame play on non Inox models.

Limitations

It suffers from the same limitations in harsh environments as other Beretta 92 pistols.
