Bayleef, known as Bayleaf (ベイリーフ Beirīfu) in Japan, is the name of one type of the eponymous creatures inhabiting the fictional universe of the cartoon series and various games of "Pokémon".
It is the evolved form of the Pokémon Chikorita.
Name Origin
"Bayleef" is a deliberate misspelling of "bay leaf".
Availability
In all of the Pokémon games, the only way to get a Bayleef is by evolving a Chikorita. Therefore, the availability of Chikorita dictates the availability of Bayleef. A Chikorita is only available in versions Gold, Silver and Crystal of the game, and then is only available in a single choice of three unless traded from another game.
About Ash's Bayleef
In the Pokémon anime and Pokémon movies, Ash Ketchum uses a Bayleef that evolved from his Chikorita. It is very affectionate. Most notably, it appears in Pokémon 4Ever where it battles Iron Mask's Scizor, while Sammy's Charmeleon battles Sneasel.
Ash briefly left it at Professor Oak's lab so that he could use Kingler in the Whirl Cup.
