Bay Mills Township is a township located in Chippewa County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,214.

- Bay Mills Indian Community is a Chippewa community within the township.
- Bay Mills is an unincorporated community in the township on Bay Mills Point, which separates the Back Bay and Waiska Bay at the mouth of the Waiska River from the larger Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior. It is at Template:Coor dms and is just south of the Bay Mills Indian Community and is part of a tax-agreement area with the tribe. Postal service is through nearby Brimley with ZIP Code 49715. It was established in 1875 as James Norris & Co. lumber mills.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 253.6 km² (97.9 mi²). 167.5 km² (64.7 mi²) of it is land and 86.1 km² (33.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 33.95% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,214 people, 485 households, and 345 families residing in the township. The population density is 7.2/km² (18.8/mi²). There are 996 housing units at an average density of 5.9/km² (15.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 44.98% White, 0.00% African American, 51.40% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 3.29% from two or more races. 0.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 485 households out of which 36.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% are married couples living together, 14.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% are non-families. 23.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 2.92.
In the township the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.9 males.
