Bauhinia is a genus in the subfamily Caesalpinioideae of the large flowering plant family Fabaceae.
The genus was named after the Bauhin brothers, Swiss-French botanists. Common names include: orchid tree, purple orchid tree, mountain ebony, poor man's orchid.
Orchid trees are native to northern India, Vietnam and southeastern China.
The species Bauhinia blakeana, first found in Hong Kong, is the representative flower for the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong, People's Republic of China, and appears on its flag and its coins.Template:Plant-stub
