Bath Spa University College is a university college near Bath, England. It is due to be upgraded to university status and be renamed Bath Spa University on August 1, 2005.
History
The institution can trace its roots back to 1898. It was formed as Bath College of Higher Education by the merger of two colleges in 1975. In 1992, the college was granted its own degree-awarding powers and adopted its current name in 1999. In spring 2005, it was announced that Bath Spa University College will become a university on August 1, 2005 and will use the title Bath Spa University.
Campuses
There are around 4,500 students and two campuses, at Newton Park and Sion Hill. The former campus, located four miles to the west of Bath, is leased from the Duchy of Cornwall. It has grounds that were landscaped by Capability Brown and a concert hall, The Michael Tippett Centre, at the Newton Park campus, near the village of Newton St. Loe. The smaller campus (Sion Hill) is located in Bath and includes a listed Georgian crescent.
