Barker is a town located in Broome County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,738. The town is named after John Barker, an early settler.
The Town of Barker was formed in 1831 and is on the eastern border of the county.

Geography
The east town line is the border of Chenango County, New York.
Interstate 81 and the Tioughnioga River pass through the town.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 108.2 km² (41.8 mi²). 107.2 km² (41.4 mi²) of it is land and 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.98% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,738 people, 993 households, and 754 families residing in the town. The population density is 25.5/km² (66.2/mi²). There are 1,067 housing units at an average density of 10.0/km² (25.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.77% White, 0.77% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 0.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 993 households out of which 37.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.5% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% are non-families. 18.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
