The barangays in Cebu City number 80 all in all. Barangays are the smallest unit of local government in the Philippines while Cebu City is the largest city and the capital of the province of Cebu.

Barangay Tisa
Barangay Tisa is located in the southeastern part of Cebu City.
History told that during the 17th century at the southeastern part of Cebu City, there was a big house constructed by the Spanish Friars, roofed with tisa ceramics. The so-called Spanish Convento was situated at the heart of unknown sitio covering 5,100 sq. meters area donated by a devoted Christian families.
The Spanish Friars at that time had women to serve them and appease their loneliness with their whims and caprices. The Filipinos who had observed their lifestyles and abused of women revolted and beheaded the Spanish Friars. The Rebolusionarios led by the Leon Kilat burned and destroyed the Spanish Convento.
In 1932, with the help of prominent families, a school was built on the very spot of the "Big Tisa House" or convento of which the name Tisa became the historical landmark of the place. The birth of Tisa I Elementary School.
"Tisa" is a Cebuano word for ceramic roofing. It was during the Spanish era when the use of ceramic roofing was introduced in the construction of houses in the Philippines. This architectural innovation was introduced by Spanish contractors using ceramics bricks from the local clay. This ingenuity has apparently set the trend for modern architectural design when the building owners are partial on Hispanic touch.
The presence of residential houses with ceramic roofing or "Tisa" in this community had also led to the birth of Barangay Tisa.
Upon the canonization of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz on October 18, 1987, Fr. Alex Lim initiated the installation of San Lorenzo Ruiz as Patron Saint of Barangay Tisa. Every September 28 of its year is a fiesta celebration in his honor. When Fr. Alex B. Salve was installed a Parish Priest on February 22, 1998, he made a lot of improvements to the church and to the whole parishes as well. San Lorenzo Ruiz Church is located at San Jose Village.</p>
