Bar (Italian: Antivari) is a coastal city in Serbia and Montenegro on the Adriatic Sea. The town itself has 25,000 residents with 45,000 in Bar County. Bar is a major seaport for Serbia and Montenegro.
It is located in the Republic of Montenegro. Historically, Bar was under Roman, Byzantine, Turkish, Venetian, and Austrian rule before its inclusion in Montenegro by the delimitation of the Treaty of Berlin in 1878.
The town's surroundings incorporate major tourist facilities. Sutomore, a nearby town of 3,000 residents, is one of the main tourist destinations in Montenegro because of its sandy beach. The old town of Bar also has what is believed to be the oldest olive tree in the world. Its age is estimated to be about 2,500 years old.
