The Colorado Mammoth is a member of the National Lacrosse League, a professional sports league in North America. They have played at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, since the 2002-2003 season. In 2004 they became the leagues attendance leader, beating the Toronto Rock out closely. They are owned by E. Stanley Kroenke who is also the owner of the Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Denver Nuggets (NBA), and the Colorado Rapids (MLS). They had previously been the Baltimore Thunder from 1986 to 1999, the Pittsburgh CrosseFire from 1999 to 2000 and the Washington Power from 2000 to 2002.
The Baltimore Thunder had played in Major Indoor Lacrosse League from 1987 to 1997.
The Baltimore Thunder won the 1987 MILL championship.
Key players who have been with the Colorado Mammoth include:
- Gary Gait, who is the NLL's All-Time Scoring Leader with 563 goals and 447 assists in 158 games (between 1992-2004). Gait also won the 2003 NLL MVP Award while with the Mammoth.
- Brian Langtry, who won the NLL Rookie of the Year Award in 2003, is well-known for his all-out goal scoring attempts.
- Jay Jalbert.
- Jamie "Mad Dog" Hanford, who is one of the top faceoff men over the last few years.
- Gord "Gee" Nash, who was the 2004 Goaltender of the Year.
- Gavin Prout, who is a crowd favorite who consistently puts up high numbers.
