Bagram Air Base

Bagram Air Base is located at the antique city of Bagram near Charikar in Parvan, Afghanistan. Its 10,000 foot runway was built in 1976. It was extensively used by Soviet aircraft during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan from 1980 to 1989.
As of late January, 2002, there were somewhat over 4,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, of which about 3,000 were at Kandahar airport, and about 500 were stationed at the air base in Bagram. Since 2002 Bagram has taken the place as the main air base in Afghanistan. It is home to over 4,000 troops, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, and Soldiers. There are also many countries that have troops stationed in Bagram, including Korea, England, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and many more.
