Bagmati

Bagmati is a holy river flowing from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The river starts from Bagdwar (Bag Tiger, dwar gate) on the northern hills of Kathmandu valley and flows through the heart of Kathmandu city. The temple of Lord Pashupatinath is located on the banks of Bagmati river. All other rivers in the valley flow into Bagmati river. Bagmati flows out of the valley through the gorge of Chovar, on the south of the valley.
The zone in Nepal which contains the Kathmandu valley is named after this river. The other famous towns in Bagmati Zone are Lalitpur (also called Patan) and Bhaktapur.
