Ayuntamiento is a Spanish word that has several similar meanings:
- "City Hall" (the actual building).
- "City Council" (the governing board).
- "City" (the metropolis itself).
Ayuntamiento is often preceded by the word "excelentísimo" (English: "most excellent"). The phrase is often "Excmo. Ayto."
In Catalan speaking parts of Spain, cities generally use the Catalan cognate, "Ajuntment".
