Ayran
|
Ayran is a popular drink in the Middle East (Laban Ayran), Turkey and Bulgaria, made up of a yogurt and water mixture. Salt is usually added to it for flavour. It is served cool, and usually accompanies meat, kebap, banitsa or pastry.
Ayran has become so popular in Turkey that it is often regarded to as a separate market in contrast to the juice and soda industries. In Turkey, McDonalds also includes ayran in their standard menu as a local menu addition, similar to McDonald's branch in Asia which sells rice alongside with most standard meals. Ayran is also very popular in the Middle East.
Outside of Turkey, it may be found at döner kebap joints.
