Avant Browser
|
Avant Browser is an alternative interface for the Windows version of Internet Explorer. The latest version, Avant Browser 10.0 Build 168, was released on May 30, 2005. It runs on Windows 98 and above.
Features
Originally a clone of Opera with the Internet Explorer engine, Avant offers many options present in Opera, which do not exist in the standard Internet Explorer:
- Flash blocker: Downloads of flash, pictures, videos, sounds and ActiveX components can be blocked.
- Pop-up blocker: pop-ups are blocked by default (only present in normal Internet Explorer for Windows XP)
- Mouse functions: Links can be opened in the background, and mouse gestures have been implemented. For example the scroll button on the mouse can be set to open links in the background or foreground as opposed to Internet Explorer, where you have to right click and click on "Open Link in New Window."
- Passwords: You can choose to have Avant store your passwords so you don't have to type them each time you visit a page. Obviously, this is a good option if you are the only one with access to your computer.
- Multi-Window browsing: Multiple web pages can be browsed simultaneously, in one main window.
- Fullscreen modes: The Avant Browser fullscreen mode can hide the entire interface, allowing for more desktop space than the normal Internet Explorer.
- Search engines: Yahoo! and Google search engine interfaces are built-in the browser.
- Records cleaner: Usage tracks can be easily removed.
- Safe Recovery: After a crash previously opened pages are still available.
- Skins: the browser look can be changed by skins.
