Astronomy Picture of the Day
|
The Astronomy Picture of the Day (or APOD) website is a service provided by NASA. According to the website, "Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer." The photograph was not necessarily taken on the day that it was displayed. However, the pictures and descriptions are often related to current astronomical events. The images are either regular photographs, images snapped by radiotelescopes or other instruments that may provide effects such as false color, or (occasionally) artists' conceptions. Past images are stored in the APOD Archive, with the first image appearing on June 16, 1995.
